Cesar Odio Memorial Fund

Coach Cesar Odio served more than 20 years at Barry University and compiled the most wins by any men’s basketball coach at Barry. While he led the team for 17 years, Coach Odio’s impact extended well beyond the court. He connected with so many different people and exemplified the meaning of living out Barry’s Core Commitments. From his playing days, Cesar was always known for toughness, leadership and devotion to his family. Coach Odio was not only a coach, but a devoted family-man, mentor, friend and father-figure to countless student-athletes and many in the South Florida basketball community. He was committed to ensuring that his athletes completed their education. Even while battling cancer for nine years, he always lived by his motto, “Every day is a great day!”

Coach Odio passed away on July 20, 2016 after battling leukemia for more than nine years. As the University community looks to honor Coach Odio’s legacy, we are committed to establishing an endowed scholarship in his name along with an appropriate physical memorial. With the support of alumni, friends and members of the community, the University plans to create the first endowed scholarship for a basketball student-athlete and name the court in the Health and Sports Center (“HSC”) Coach Cesar Odio Court.
